Dallas County High School student brings gun to campus
A Dallas County High School student brought a gun to school on Monday.
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said a gun was found in the book bag of a 14-year-old student. Because the student’s a juvenile, their identity can’t be revealed. No one was injured.
Jackson also said that Dallas County Sheriff Office Deputies got called out to the school after DCHS officials discovered a student had a gun on campus through a school video camera.
“Nobody was around the gun when it was found,” Jackson said.
Jackson said that the teenager is placed in juvenile detention and the investigation is underway. Jackson added that a juvenile hearing will be held this week.
“Guns are not allowed on any school campus in Dallas County,” Jackson said.
Dallas County Schools Superintendent Hattie Shelton said she’s saddened by the news.
“I hated this happened to our students, it’s devastating,” Shelton said. “Our staff did the necessary protocol to making sure the students and staff were okay.”
