Dallas County Schools Board of Directors seek to fill vacant seat
The Dallas County Schools Board of Directors are seeking to fill their District 2 seat after Chairman Roy Edwards resigned from the board earlier this month to focus his attention on a family issue.
Edwards stepped into the role of Chairman in November after the gavel was passed to him by then Chairman Leroy Miles.
The Board of Directors have a unique system of appointing a chairman where the gavel is passed every November, in order of district, allowing all board members to serve as chairman equally.
“This system has worked wonderfully for us,” said Minor.
According to Minor, Edwards served on the board for over 20 years.
“He did a tremendous job,” said Minor. “He was always amenable and willing to work with everyone to reach a solution. He was a great asset to the school board.”
Minor says the board is required by law to fill the vacant District 2 seat by April 3, one month after Edwards’ resignation, or the spot will be appointed by the governor.
“There may be an extension on the deadline because of [COVID – 19],” said Minor. “We’ve got a couple of names, but we are still seeking applicants.”
Minor said anyone interested in filling the District 2 seat of the Dallas County School Board should contact Annie Bell at the Dallas County Board of Education at email@example.com or 334-876-4463.
Minor said applicants must live in District 2.
